My underlying philosophy is that stealing is wrong.
I am the only candidate who supports putting health care back into the free market to make it affordable. Televisions are affordable because there are few government restrictions on them. If we get the government out of the health care business, who knows what new cheap and wonderful medical treatments the free market will come up with. The government has stalled medical research, jacked up prices, and lowered quality.
I am the only candidate who supports a deadline for Iraq. I call for a deadline in Iraq of July 4, 2007 because we should not again suffer the irony of celebrating our great day of freedom while being taxed to support an invasion of a country halfway around the world. Iraq is becoming a Communist country and we should not support that any longer than necessary. Bring our troops home from nearly all foreign bases. See my position paper here.
I am the only candidate who opposes all wars of foreign interventions. Any war involving American lives or money must be authorized by the Congress in advance, not delegated to the President. I am the only candidate who would have voted unconditionally against the initial invasion of Iraq.
I would vote against the Patriot Act and any violations of American liberties in the pursuit of terrorists. Every wiretap or search must have a warrant. I would vote to dismantle the hastily created and ineffective Department of Homeland Security.
I support permanently abolishing all federal taxes and regulations on gas and energy. The free market does a better job. Let the millions of businessmen and entrepreneurs develop new fuels or increase efficiencies from old ones.
I am the only candidate that opposes the use of government force to interfere with private organizations providing disaster relief. Americans are the most generous people on earth and we need to get rid of government bureaucracy and ineptness to allow private organizations to organize the relief efforts. The government does not help the needy or account to its taxpayers, it only interferes with the attempts of the private sector which actually work and are accountable to the people who donate money.
I support every parent's right to choose how to educate their children, whether it is through community-funded public schools, private schools, parochial schools, or homeschooling. The federal government should not be involved in any way. The Department of Education has failed and should be abolished before it can do any more harm. I support the separation of school and state.
I would vote to abolish the IRS and all federal income taxes, including personal, estate, gift, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, self-employment, and corporate taxes. I would vote to replace them with a national retail sales tax with pre-paid rebates for those below the poverty line. One example is at FairTax.org.
The government can never create jobs or grow the economy. It can only interfere. I would vote to legalize work. I would repeal minimum wage laws to give workers more options. I would repeal licensing laws to let people do what they want. I would slash taxes to let people keep more of what they earn. I would abolish the Department of Labor.
I would phase out Social Security and Medicare, keeping full benefits for those retired or nearing retirement. I support a permanent repeal of the estate tax. I support shrinking the FDA so seniors can access whatever medical treatments they like. I support a lifetime exemption on federal taxes for those senior citizens who permanently opt out of Social Security, Medicare, and other federal government support.
The American government exists to protect the rights of Americans, not those who enter illegally. Illegal aliens are illegal, period. I am against any and all amnesty proposals. Every inch of our borders needs to be secured. Minimum wage and other restrictions on American employment need to be repealed so we can legalize work for American citizens, rather than create a black market for aliens.
People living in Connecticut experience tax freedom day latest of all the states, on May 12. Fairfield county has the highest median income of any metropolitan area. Any way you look at it, we pay too much in taxes to support foreign wars and wasteful government. I would vote to slash taxes, phase out spending, and pay down the debt.
The government has spent trillions of dollars on programs it claimed would end poverty; all have failed. The free market actually solves the problems of poverty if it is given a chance. I would vote to let people keep more of their own money and let them help in their communities or wherever they like so we can truly eradicate permanent poverty.
The federal government should not be involved in paying for highways. If it were left up to the states, there would be far faster construction and better maintenance. Airline security should be handled by the efficient free market. I would vote to abolish the Department of Transportation.
Abortion is at worst a type of murder. Murder, like nearly all crimes, is a matter of state law. There is no federal murder statute. Similarly abortion should also belong in the jurisdiction of the states, not the federal government. Marriage should be a voluntary contract, not a government edict, and should be as flexible as any voluntary contract. The principle human right is freedom.
I would vote for a permanent ban on federal taxation of the Internet. I would vote against any and all government regulation of technology. I would vote to abolish the wasteful and unnecessary Technology Administration.
