| Somewhere or sometime along the way, something went terribly wrong with our "two party" political system! There doesn't seem to be any difference between them anymore. Say what you need to say to get elected, then go about business as usual . just barely representing your constituents, planning for the next election, and taking full advantage of all the perks of office. It seems that everyone I've talked with lately has had enough of the Shays/Farrell negative campaigning. Oh, I know neither one of them has their return address on the mail. It comes from a "National Committee." The radio and TV ads are just as bad, filled with "spin" and half-truths. It's disgraceful. Fortunately, we voters have another choice! There is a quiet, intellectual candidate that has a power of presence lacking in the others. Phil Maymin. I believe Mr. Maymin would do us proud if/when elected. Those of you who remember me from my 10 years as a Cub Scoutmaster in town, will know that I "call them as I see them", and I urge all of you to visit his website (www.MayminFor Congress.com) as he doesn't get the media coverage given to the big political machine parties. I will not agree with all of his ideas and stances. I don't agree with Shays very often, and I didn't with Farrell when she was first selectwoman. We don't send people to Congress to vote just along party lines, go off on "fact-finding" tours in other countries, or make deals for bridges that lead nowhere! I do believe that Mr. Maymin will represent our majority views. Which, after all, is why we elect representatives to Congress. Isn't it? Alan H. Hall, Westport |
