I saw the replay of the debate yesterday on CSPAN.
I have to say Phil, I had never heard of you before that debate.

My impressions from the debate were as follows:

1) Diane Farrell is a danger to herself. (10 Dollars says she can't provide evidence she said she would about her statements)
2) Shays is a dangerously good politician.
3) You made perfect sense.

I wish you luck.
I will unfortunately not be able to vote for you as I am not in your district.

Here are some emails I've received. Please feel free to continue to add comments on all of the debates.

Dear Sir,

I just watched one of your campaign debates on C-Span. Your demeanor and intelligence was truly inspiring. The Libertarian movement in the U.S. needs more candidates like you. It's not only the message but also the credibility of the messenger that's important as I'm sure you're well aware, and you Sir bring both to the table. Well Done!

I am watching C-Span and it is clear that Mr. Maymin is head and shoulders above the other candidates and I wish I could vote for him. Maybe he should move to a more Libertarian friendly area and run.

Watched the debate on C-span, and wanted to applaud you. If, and I mean if, you should lose the congressional seat; I'd encourage you to run for president in 2008.

From a very impressed libertarian in Oregon.

Dear Congressman Maymin, I don't live in your district, I live in Kansas City area.Wanted to tell you "atta boy!" on your debate with the repulicrats on C-span. I will be voting for Eric Buck Libertarian for congress in our area...I'm a new convert to the Libertarian Party, and deeply concerned about the corrupt, criminal, affairs of our government...good luck, God Bless... R.Reid...

I watched the debate between you, Diane Farrel, and Christopher Shays yesterday, and I just wanted to say that you were very good. I agree with everything you had to say, and you really presented yourself, with intellect and honesty. You had legitmate reasons behind everything you stated, which I think is something that many politicians lack today. I believe it is time for someone like you in our government. I wish you luck in the polls!!

If anyone finds a link to video of the second debate post it up. I can't find it anywhere, this was the 10/05 debate. I know CTN is replaying it Monday night but I'll most likely miss it as I did Saturday.

treasureman   illegals

Sun Oct 08, 2006 2:51 pm

i was listening to clinton the other night and he said the border will never be closed and said why, mexico is our tenth biggest lender,so like clinton said,if you went to the bank that you owe money too and asked for help because your haveing trouble with payments, what would the bank say, hell no pay us or lose your house, well mexico is the same way if we,the gov. go to them and says we need help with the border the mexican gov.says, tough luck if you close the border we want all the money we lent you and we don't have it to give them.also theres twenty eight million airs south of the border, mexico and south and twenty one come from mexico, with all that money they should take care of there own.the mexican holding our bonds would be a good one to ask shays, hes been in office and should know how much there holding and it would let everyone knwo the scam our gov. is playing on us. again good luck and we all hope you will win, hell you will win.

Hi JSearles,

The second debate will be on CT-N, cable channel 83 around here, tomorrow, 10/9, at 8:24pm. Here's a link to the schedule:

Also, maybe by Tuesday they will have a stream of the video available on the website. If so, I will put up a link to it on the main page here.

Thanks,

Phil Maymin   Third debate

Sun Oct 08, 2006 11:04 pm

Here are some comments about the third debate, hosted by the World Affairs Forum and held tonight, 10/8, at UConn's Stamford campus.

****

You completely blew away Shays and Farrell tonight, everyone I've talked to has told me they're supporting you now.

Your arguments were the most clearly defined, you didn't dance around the issue like the others, and I think it's safe to say you're the most likable and best speaker in the race. With candidates like you getting more attention we will finally have a chance of breaking the two-party system (if you could even call it two-party these days) and bringing about real change.

- Ian Hollis, UConn

****

you owned farrell and shays tonight. your the only candidate in the dabate who puts perspective on the issues and has a moral justification for his stances. ill take the candidate who believes in freedom any time.

- Ryan Fazio, Greenwich High School

Hi Phil,

Have to thank you again for coming out to our school, UConn Stamford, tonight. You were the best candidate in the debate tonight. You were honest and have the same mindset of the, seemingly, the majority of the American people. I hope you can get your voice out there to enlighten them. Best of luck! And I really hope we can get you to come back to UConn to speak directly to our students. You seem to be the voice of our generation. I hope you can come back so we can use our voices for you.

Good luck with your future debates!

Maureen Hart
Student Government Association President

Your performance tonight at the debate was excellent -- it was clear that you were the superior candidate. I hope that the rest of the district wakes up to the importance of a Libertarian in the House. If there's any way I can help you out in these last few weeks of the campaign, I'd be glad to do it.

Thanks again for showing Connectiuct the alternative to two-party politics.

JSearles   October 5th Debate

Mon Oct 09, 2006 10:28 pm

I was a little dissapointed that this second debate was basically a replay of the first debate.

It is just too bad that it's entirely over the heads of the R and D candidates that the government is not Healthcare Inc.

Phil, I really think you caught them by surprise when you you called them on worrying more about who said what then the actual issues.

Good Job, and God help us all when the major political parties don't even understand what the purpose of our government is.

CT Resident   My observations from the 2 debates

Phil

Listening to you was like finding a way out of nightmare maze created by democrats and republicans over the last few decades. I look at both parties like 2 angry dogs fighting over a bone that represent taxpayer?s money. You are very talented young individual and made a difference already regardless if you elected or not. What plays against you is that not too many people know about you (none at my work at least) and about your great party. I really hope that you would write a book about your ideas and I will be the first buyer. Also, I wish that if you are not elected that you try next time because next time you going to have much, much more votes from people who already know you.

I am New Libertarian thanks to you and used to be a republican

Phil,

Great work on the debates. You're a credit to the LP and you're opening up new thinking it appears. Looking forward to working with you in the future. My entire goal as a candidate was to get into debates in NY's 20th.

The two main parties are still arguing what they may do. I helped organize a television debate, another moderated by the LoWV and participated in an additional Helathcare forum. Not sure I did as well as you did . . . you definately made it to prime time and did very well. Good luck November 7th. Step up CT and elect this man!

Sincerely,

JSearles   10/15 Debate

Wed Oct 18, 2006 9:54 am

Just watched the debate from 10/15. I think it was a great that you provided the video.

My impressions:

Chris Shays had a bad debate. I'm not sure what happened to him.

The green party guy chilled me to my bones. How can someone believe that stuff. America is supposed to be a melting pot of cultures, not the policies of socialist nations.

Farrell seems to have tried to mimick your healthcare privatization views as a facade, that is before she revealed her true colors.

I liked your breakdown of the "right" to healthcare and other non-existent "rights".

I saw about 30 seconds of you on C-SPAN a few days ago and that's all it took to wish that I lived in your district because it only took that long to see that you are a man with charisma.

I hope to see you on a larger stage some day so that I can vote for you.
